Egypt set to begin work on $1bn Alexandria metro project
Egyptian authorities have announced that all the technical and financial studies related to the E£17 billion ($1.05 billion) Alexandria Metro has been completed and the construction will begin in the first quarter of 2020, said a report.

With the technical and financial studies related to the E£17 billion ($1.05 billion) Alexandria Metro already completed, the construction work is likely to begin in the first quarter of 2020, reported Daily News Egypt, citing a top official.
The Alexandria Metro will be implemented over two years in three phases, said Alexandria Governor Abdul Aziz Qansua.
The Phase One will extend from the Abu Qir railway station to the Misr station, the second phase from Misr station to Max station, and the last stage from Max station to Alkyl and then 21 km to Matrouh road, he stated.
As had been done with the Cairo Metro, this project too would be awarded to an international company, said Qansua.
Upon completion, the Metro will run from Alexandria city’s innermost eastern point at Abu Qir to Borg Al Arab in the west, passing by the city’s most important and populated stations, with a holding capacity of 10,000 to 15,000 commuters an hour, he added.
