Modest Company, a leading provider of waterproofing and solar energy solutions, said it has been signed up by Universal Clothing, a leading apparel company, for installation of 498 solar PV panels within its premises at Jebel Ali, Dubai.
The rooftop on-grid PV system, which will be designed and installed by Modest Company, will operate under Dubai Electricity and Water Authority's (Dewa) Shams Dubai net metering programme, said a statement from the company.
The 231.57 kWp system will generate 371 MWh of clean energy annually to be used for self-consumption, thereby offsetting over 500 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
As per the agreement, Modest will be responsible for design, supply, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of the PV system while obtaining permits and fulfilling requirements of all relevant authorities, it stated.
As specialists in metal roof waterproofing, Modest gives utmost importance to roof upkeep before any modification on the roof surface, said the company in a statement.
Therefore, prior to installing the system, a specialized metal roof waterproofing system offered by US-based Topps Products will be applied on the entire rooftop to ensure a trouble-free roof throughout the life of the PV system, it added.
Askary Khimjee, Director at Modest Company, said: "We are delighted to have been selected as the preferred partner by Universal Clothing to execute this landmark project as part of their long-term plan for sustainability."
"Combined with the 30+ years of experience in metal roof waterproofing in UAE, Modest Company offers its customers the option of going solar while keeping the clients’ best interests at the forefront," he stated.
Khimjee pointed out that the entire process - Right from the concept up to handover - is carried out by its own team of experts without involvement of subcontractors.
"We undertake the entire scope, from technical design to installation and maintenance of components, giving optimum value to our clients with no interruption to their activities," he added.
Firoz Nasser, the owner of Universal Clothing said: "Sustainability has always been at the forefront of our culture at Universal Clothing; via reuse & recycling of clothing, our goal is to push the world to reduce its impact on the environment."
"Now, by powering our operations with renewable energy, we have taken one step further into becoming as efficient and eco-friendly as possible," he added.
Muhammadali Virji, the owner and general manager, said: "Over the past few years, our experience with Modest Company as a roof waterproofing partner has been excellent. So, when they proposed to install a solar PV system at our premises and promised to provide us an efficient system, all-inclusive maintenance and guaranteed returns on our investment, the decision was a quick and easy one to make."
