Project Overview
Background
Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) is building an aromatics complex in Bahrain. Petrochemical Industries Co. (PIC), a subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA), have formed a joint venture to finance the aromatics complex in Bahrain.
Scope of Work
Scope of the scheme involves the construction of:
- Aromatics chemical complex with a capacity to produce 1.45 mtpa
- Installation of electrical and mechanical equipment
- Paraxylene plant
- Production unit
- Heat exchanger
- Safety equipment and infrastructure facilities
- Storage facility
- Instrumentation works
- Offsites & utilities
- Related facilities
Finance
Petrochemical Industries Co. (PIC) and the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) will be responsible for arranging the finance for the project.
Additional Notes
The aromatics complex will be integrated with Bapco refinery and subsequently, it will receive feedstock from the refinery. Upon completion, it will produce secondary products.

| Mar 2018 | Bapco has issued invitations to financial companies to invest in the project. |
| Jan 2018 | Tenders for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract have been issued and several pre-qualified companies were invited to submit bids. Some of them are as follows:

| Mar 2017 | FEED works have been completed. The JV clients have agreed to build the factory with an annual capacity of 1.44 million tonnes per year (tpy). |
