Project Overview


Background

Phase 3 of the Sohar airport development includes the construction of a passenger terminal and a cargo terminal. The airport will be built approximately 10 kilometers northwest of the center of Sohar, meaning that it will serve the Batinah region and Sohar Port. The capacity of the terminal is expected to be around 500,000 passengers per year with a land area of 9,000 square meters.

Finance

The Oman Ministry of Transport and Communication will be funding the $130 million construction of Sohar Airport.

Hurley Consulting is responsible for the cost and finance related work for the scheme.


Additional Notes

Hamza Associates, Robert & Company, and Burgess & Niple is carrying out consultancy services for the scheme.

Indra Consultancy and Technology will supply the project with air traffic management systems that will ensure the safety of the flights and efficiency of the airport.

Thales Group will supply the electronic aerospace navigational systems for the airport.

Selex Sistemi Integrati will be supplying radar systems for the weather and will carry out installation, training, commissioning of doppler weather radar systems and all similar service requirements.

Vaisala Oyj will supply technology systems for the weather forecasting, lightning detection and sounding systems.

Airport Planning and Development Limited (APD) will be responsible for the evaluation of the tenders submitted as well as the reviewing and design of the airport terminals.

ADPI Designers & Planners are the project management consultants (PMC) on the scheme.

Larsen & Toubro will carry out construction works for the project after being officially awarded the EPC contract.

Larsen & Toubro has won the main construction contract on phase 3 of the scheme. Construction works are expected to conclude in the first half of 2018.

Bids are still being evaluated by the Ministry of Transport and Communication.
